Global: The General Manager shall not cause or allow any practice, activity, decision, or organizational circumstance that is unlawful, imprudent, or in violation of commonly accepted business and professional ethics and practices, or in violation of the Cooperative Principles.
B1: STAFF RELATIONS : With respect to relations with paid and volunteer staff, the General Manager shall not cause or allow conditions which are unsustainable, inhumane, illegal, unfair, or undignified .
B2: COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS : With respect to employment, compensation, and benefits to employees, consultants, contract workers, and volunteers, the General Manager shall not cause or allow conditions that are illegal, unfair, or that jeopardize the Co-op’s fiscal integrity or public image.
B3: FINANCIAL PLANNING : With respect to planning fiscal events (budgeting for all or any part of a fiscal period), the General Manager shall not jeopardize either operations or fiscal integrity of the Cooperative. S/he will coordinate the preparation of annual business plans, capital, cash and operating budgets. The GM will monitor operational performance against these budgets and plans.
B4: FINANCIAL CONDITION : With respect to operating the cooperative in a sound and prudent manner, the General Manager shall not jeopardize the long-term financial health of the cooperative. The General Manager will monitor and enhance the financial health and working capital of the cooperative.
B5: ASSET PROTECTION : The General Manager will not fail to adequately protect the cooperative’s assets nor allow disrepair, excessive risk, untraceable transactions or conflict of interest to occur in the management of the cooperative's resources.
B6: COMMUNICATION AND COUNSEL TO THE BOARD : With respect to providing information and counsel to the Board, the General Manager shall not cause or allow the Board to be uninformed or misinformed.
B7: MANAGEMENT CONTINUITY : The General Manager shall not operate without a written plan for management continuity
B8: CUSTOMER SERVICE AND VALUE : The General Manager shall not fail to ensure that our member-owners and our customers receive high value in our products and services.
B9: MEMBERSHIP : The General Manager shall not fail to establish, maintain, and promote a vital membership program which builds a sense of ownership among member-owners.
B10: ENVIRONMENT : The General Manager shall not fail to take reasonable measures to ensure that the Co-op activities and practices minimize the Co-op’s negative impact ¾ and maximize the Co-op’s positive impact ¾ on the environment.
B11: LOCATION (Retired as of 4/17/07: this policy guided Board decision making regarding evaluating suitable sites for the co-op)
B12: NEIGHBORING CO-OPS : The General Manager shall not fail to work to create an interdependent cooperative economy with our neighboring Co-ops for our mutual benefit.
